The summer of Mankato

Postby Wildchild » Sun Apr 21, 2013 3:53 pm

Not even halfway through 2013 and It's shaping up an interesting year of development.

    2013 Developments
  • Cherry Berry (2)
  • Subway
  • Jimmy Johns
  • Erbert Gerberts
  • Nails Salons
  • Jersey Mikes
  • Hardees
  • Marco's Pizza
  • Family Video
  • Japanese Steakhouse by Old Navy
  • KIA dealership
  • Tailwind Office buildings downtown
  • Apartments, apartments and more apartments

Throw Wal-Mart in there somewhere.

Any word on what is going into the new strip mall behind the new strip mall (Cherry Berry/Dickies)? Whatever happened to IHOP in front of Cub and Mills Fleet Farm across from Menards?

The sold sign went up on the lot next to Pizza Ranch recently as well.

This is great for our tax base...Let's hope the residential real estate taxes stay the same or go down a little.....

There is also a "New Osaka" Steakhouse opening in the old Dunn Bros on Madison Avenue. Also, La Terraza just opened on Saturday in the old BK on Madison Avenue. Are there 2 Cherry Berry's opening that you have a "2" behind it?

Yes, if you believe the sign on the Monks Ave strip mall across from CVS. It says Cherry Berry, Subway, Massads, a Liquor store and Caribou Coffee (yes, I thought they were on the edge of bankruptcy too).

Of course Yu's Chinese is still there and is open already.

Since when has being on the verge of bankruptcy stopped businesses from opening a new store? :-)

I think if I remember correctly a few months ago in the Free Press it said that Pawn America was going to build on the land next to Pizza Ranch.

Pawn Am building by Pizza Ranch does sound familiar.

If you read between the lines in today's paper it sounds like the HyVee downtown will FINALLY be imploded or remodeled. I like HyVee but that store is like shopping in the 3rd world, a crowded dump.

I hope they rebuild. Walgreen's decided to remodel Snyder downtown and it shows. It's a new store but already look like it's over 10 years old. Cub was smart, they didn't remodel Madsen's, follow their lead HyVee, don't polish that turd downtown!

Don't forget the new apartment complex going up next to the Wow Zone.

It all adds to the tax base.

The Super America at the top of the hill is coming down after 10 years! I always wondered why nobody ever wanted to touch that eyesore. Walgreen or CVS would have killed to be on that corner. Somebody at S/A must have been misinformed or greedy.
